Why I Started This Blog

I always had some degree of pride in my city. After all, I was born and raised there. And my entire family uprooted from the then-racist South for better job opportunities and living arrangements. There are still a few good people left here. But the same can be said about any Northern city.

My point is, I feel like Detroit should be saved. I feel like young people (including myself, unfortunately) are letting circumstance, and frankly, people, run them away from the city. In addition, I feel like there are too many residents who sit idly by and just let political dirtbags and ignorant lowlifes run rampant.

I'm tired of having to defend my city. I'm tired of having to "prove" to people that everyone in Detroit is not undereducated, violent, pregnant, lazy, and on welfare.

Outsiders will never understand. But Detroit, it's not our job to make them understand. Our job, as voters, taxpayers, and homeowners, is to reclaim our city and make our officials run it right. Thus, getting the thugs off the streets. It's a trickle-down effect.

Yes, I left almost two years ago. But I left because people like Kwame Kilpatrick, the city council, Jennifer Granholm, and just about every other politician in Michigan, didn't have the foresight to look into bringing more industries to our fine state. They can care less about us getting jobs after college, as long as their pockets are being lined. This is also why my friends left. Great minds are leaving our state, our city. We're experiencing "braindrain."

Yes, I'm in Washington, DC, but words are powerful. I intend to do something about helping the city, from this blog. It takes small steps, little efforts, to build a great outcome, a positive legacy.
